Before European Christians Forced Gender Roles, Native Americans Acknowledged 5 Genders

 

It wasn’t until Europeans took over North America that natives adopted the ideas of gender roles. For Native Americans, there was no set of rules that men and women had to abide by in order to be considered a “normal” member of their tribe.
In fact, people who had both female and male characteristics were viewed as gifted by nature, and therefore, able to see both sides of everything. According to Indian Country Today, all native communities acknowledged the following gender roles: “Female, male, Two Spirit female, Two Spirit male and Transgendered.”

The “Two Spirit” culture of Native Americans was one of the first things that Europeans worked to destroy and cover up. According to Brits like George Catlin, the Two Spirit tradition had to be eradicated before it could go into history books. Catlin said the tradition:
“..MUST BE EXTINGUISHED BEFORE IT CAN BE MORE FULLY RECORDED.”
However, it wasn’t only white Europeans that tried to hide any trace of native gender bending. According to Indian Country Today, “Spanish Catholic monks destroyed most of the Aztec codices to eradicate traditional Native beliefs and history, including those that told of the Two Spirit tradition.” Throughout these efforts by Catholics and Christians, Native Americans were forced to dress and act according to newly designated gender roles.
One of the most celebrated Two Spirits in recorded history was a Lakota warrior aptly named Finds Them And Kills Them. Osh-Tisch was born a male and married a female, but adorned himself in women’s clothing and lived daily life as a female. On June 17 1876, Finds Them And Kills Them gained his reputation when he rescued a fellow tribesman during the Battle of Rosebud Creek. An act of fearless bravery. In Native American culture, people were valued for their contributions to the tribe, rather than for masculinity or femininity. Parents did not assign gender roles to children either, and even children’s clothing tended to be gender neutral. There were no ideas or ideals about how a person should love; it was simply a natural act that occurred without judgement or hesitation.
Without a negative stigma attached to being a Two Spirit, there were no inner-tribal incidents of retaliation or violence toward the chosen people simply due to the fact that individuals identified as the opposite or both genders.

Religious influences soon brought serious prejudice against “gender diversity,” and so this forced once openly alternative or androgynous people to one of two choices. They could either live in hiding, and in fear of being found out, or they could end their lives. Many of whom did just that.
Imagine a world where people allowed others to live freely as the people nature intended them to be..without harm..without persecution..without shame. Imagine a world where we are truly free.

 Even though it sounds impossible I have always been attracted to this combination: girls, asses, and penises, but not vaginas. So I am in a great place right now.

I find her sexuality more aligned with mine: she wants me as much as I want her. This is different from what I experienced with cisgender girls: they often used sex to control their man.

She also understands my sexuality better:
She never thought that penises are icky and I didn't have to convince her to put my penis in her mouth. To the contrary: she finds it very delicious and can't get enough of it.
That makes me feel wanted.


I think one thing is not as good as cisgendered sex: At the very best cisgendered orgasms can be a union of souls. Our sex is more two people who care for each other have sex together.

Men, however, are the creatures who rule the world and, thus, deserve to survive. Stronger, wiser, and capable of great feats, it was she who should perish and they who should live.


When she finished speaking, all the men began clapping, and consequently fell to their deaths. 
Moral of the story? 
Never underestimate the power and intelligence of a trans woman.

The quality of healthy aging

From the day we are all born, we age everyday. As a young person, we don’t think about the later years in our life. We live in a very fast pace world today and it causes a lot of stress in our lives and as time goes on, the stress will affect us increasingly.

Everyone young and old, we all need to take care of our bodies and minds. By taking care of ourselves, it keeps us thinking, moving and helps prevent major illnesses such and cancer and many other diseases. We all have to work at keeping ourselves healthy and there is no better time than right now. The younger you start taking care of yourself the better it is; by starting early your catching things before they have time to progress.

So right now, start of by eating healthy. Keep an eye on that diet and make sure your not overeating, but eat enough to get vitamins you need to have. A good multivitamin is a good way to start adding supplements to what you don’t get in your food. 



Food doesn’t always have the amount of vitamins anymore like they use to, and that starts at the farmer’s level. Don’t blame the farmer for this because they are just doing their jobs the same way we all go to ours everyday. The farmer has to add fertilizer, chemicals and even water to their crops to make them grow bigger, faster and for beauty too. Adding all these chemicals eat up all the natural vitamins that you need. Water has chemicals in it too; one reason why your water needs to be tested at least once a year especially if you have well water. Once the food is grown and ready to be shipped it is polished, coated to keep it nice and fresh looking during shipment, which is why this will take away some of the vitamins as well. Try to eat as much, homegrown food as you can and not processed foods. Fresh homegrown food is the best, since you get natural vitamins.



A good multivitamin isn’t going to hurt anyone. It is known that people who take a multivitamin everyday is in better health than someone who doesn’t. Sometimes your doctor may want you to take extra vitamin, as we grow older because our bodies change and sometimes require more of something. In addition, as we grow older our eating habits change and we don’t eat as much or we want to lose weight and don’t eat the right foods.  Nevertheless, remember you can lose weight and still eat right.

As we grow older our bodies and mind change. All the stress we had growing up and continue through out our lives. Relieve that stress as much as possible because it can do a lot of harm to us. Stress is known to be a major factor for poor heart conditions, strokes, and it will lower our immune system, as we grow older.   



A regular exercise program is good for all ages and helps relieve stress at the early ages as well.  If only families took time out maybe as a family with their children and made it a part of their lives that would help relieve it during the younger years.

A person who learns and enjoys exercising on a daily basis will keep during it, as they grow older as well. 

Exercising will help the older person to keep those bones more flexible so they don’t get stiff and weak. The heart gets benefit from exercising too. Exercise will cause the heart to produce naturally, by working it harder to keep it highly flavored. Exercising helps to keep our bodies toned up and helps us to lose weight, or at most keeping the weight maintained. 


Remember starting early can help later in years to make your life healthier and more contented.

* Always eat breakfast

The biggest issue is hair, if you are out of the closet and have a supporting spouse you have probably already waxed or shaved your hands and arms. But like many of us this is not an option for me. I have always been disgusted by the hair on my hands and arms. Over the last year I have been slowly trimming it back. I use an at home hair cutting kit to thin out my arm hair. The ¼ inch attachment when run thru your arm hair brings it down to a nice level. I shave my fingers and parts of my hands and then leave just a bit. I then use a little bit of Sun-In, this is a product used to lighten hair when in the summer sun. This will lighten up what’s left. In the winter you can use a hair dryer with the Sun-In.

Next, if you want be a girl, or look like a girl start acting like one! Take care of those hands, buy some really good hand cream and keep it at your desk. Wear gloves when doing your manly activities, raking leaves, changing the oil or roofing.
Let’s talk about those nails. I keep my nails a tiny bit long, about a 1/8 of an inch of white at the tips. When I am on the road for work and planning a day out I’ll go to any local nail shop. I usually go the night before my outing endrab and get a French manicure. The French manicure features white tips that are accentuated by a natural looking base. The nail technicians are typically delighted and fascinated by me. I tell them I am going to a party dressed as a woman and they usually think this is so cool, and asked a bunch of questions. Once again this provides a great opportunity for outreach and education. Never has there been a negative or cold reception. 



The cost is about $20.00 with a gratuity. Now the trick with this manicure and how it helps us camouflage our larger hands is by having the white tips run a little deeper inward. Normally women have a ½ inch of nail tip that is polished white. Instead we have a ¼ inch of white polish but it doesn’t extend out past the edge of the finger. This creates the illusion of a longer nail and thus shorter fingers.

I understand that going to a nail salon might not be in the comfort zone of many girls. Another great option that produces fantastic results are Broadway press-on nails, get the short ones and you will get almost the same effect. I am wearing them in this picture. The only place I can find the press on nails is at CVS stores. I wait until there is a two for one sale and stock up. Finally how we move, hold, and gesture with our hands send gender cues. I have seen beautiful transgender women who use masculine hand gestures that make them look out of place.


Here is an amazingly simple trick that I was saving for last. Here’s how we make our hands 30 to 40% smaller. Place you hands flat on the table in front of you. Then take your thumb and place it between your pinky and ring finger. See the difference? Now, add a faux engagement ring on one hand, a birthstone ring on the other, a gold watch on one wrist and some type of bracelet on the other, this teamed with your manicure and hand care what a huge difference! A rule of thumb (pun intended) when observing feminine body language is that women tend to make themselves smaller. 



For example women hold their arms closer to their bodies and cross their legs. Men hold their arms away from their bodies and keep their legs open. You’ll notice women keep their hands cupped or have their fingers curled inward while holding their hands idle. Women also tend to keep their hands above their waist. Another typically feminine hand gesture is self annunciation. This is when a woman demurely touches her hand to her chest when speaking in the first person. “In my opinion I really think you need to speak to Karen about this.”


Become an observer of women find a mentor and notice her movements and gestures. Then practice and don’t be afraid to act feminine. When I first started going out in public I was hesitant to act feminine, then it dawned on me. Of course I should act feminine. Observe yourself in front of a mirror as you would when rehearsing lines in play. Learn the part and then it will become natural.

You know the claim on food value from the label that is stuck on it; let's pick a nutritious drink product and on that drink is some nutritional claim that states it has a shelf value of two years. After those two years that product still needs to contain 100% of the vitamin C level.

Vitamin deterioration
That does not mean that when the drink product was manufactured it contained 100% of vitamin C and after the two year has gone, it only contain half that level of vitamin C. What it means is that the manufacturer had to put an overage of that vitamin in the product because the vitamins will deteriorate over a period of time. Usually the higher the temperature the higher rate of deterioration, and the longer it is stored means something too.



Vitamin C is the most sensitive vitamin. The government does routinely inspect the food manufacturing companies with products that have this problem. What the food companies and food scientist does when the product is formulated they will add an overage of vitamins and minerals. It protects the product during the shelf life.

200% of vitamins in the product
So if they want the product to contain 100% of vitamin C after 2 years, then they have to put 200% of vitamins in the product, because of the deterioration that takes place. 2 years later it will have lost half of its value, and contain the claimed amount.



Food companies have documentation on all food products that they have manufactured. They know the exact deterioration rate on all their products, and therefore they can predict the deterioration rate of new and similar products. That means that a new nutritional beverage formula can be based on the level of a know products nutrition values.



Vitamin questions
That makes me ask my self. Can I trust that the food I buy from the store has the nutrition value that it claims? Can I feel sure that my body gets all the vitamins it must have to function? I say better be safe than sorry!

If you Google type 2 diabetes, reliable sources—like the National Institutes of Health website—will tell you that it’s a chronic condition.

But Newcastle University researcher Roy Taylor, M.D., begs to differ.


His research finds that some people are able to reverse their diabetes by going on an ultra low-calorie diet.

For Dr. Taylor’s new study, 30 diabetic people ate just 700 calories daily for two months. They lost 31 pounds on average. 


Twelve of those subjects’ blood sugar levels fell below the threshold for diabetes, 126 milligrams per deciliter, as a result. Some of their levels were completely within the normal range, Dr. Taylor says, but the average fell within pre-diabetic parameters.

Afterward, the researchers gave the study participants guidance on portion size to help them return to a normal diet while maintaining their new, lower weight.

Six months later, all of those people were still diabetes-free.

That means that as long as they keep their weight down, they no longer need to take insulin or constantly monitor their blood sugar. They’re no longer at risk for premature heart attacks and strokes, or diabetes complications that can damage their eyes, kidneys, and feet, says Dr. Taylor. 



Plus, they just feel better—poor blood sugar regulation can zap your energy.

How does a diet cure type 2 diabetes? It comes down to weight loss, he says.

Diabetes is caused by a buildup of fat in your pancreas, Dr. Taylor says. The extra fat screws with your organ’s ability to make insulin, the hormone that controls your blood sugar. 


But when you lose fat, the first bit to go is the fat in your organs, says Dr. Taylor.

“In the first 10 to 14 kilograms [22 to 31 pounds] of weight loss, this relatively small amount of fat that’s actually within the organs gets used up, and the organs can go back to normal function,” he explains.

As a result, the insulin-producing cells in your pancreas are able to respond more quickly to the sugar in your bloodstream, keeping your blood sugar levels normal.

The study is a confirmation of what obesity specialist Spencer Nadolsky, D.O, says he sees in his practice “all the time.”

It’s part of a shift in how doctors are treating diabetes, he says. Instead of just feeding people more insulin to keep their blood sugar down, you can treat the underlying cause: the fat in their organs.

You don’t have to take such extreme measures as a 700-calorie diet, though, both doctors say. As long as you lose about 15 percent of your body weight, you may be able to reverse your diabetes, Dr. Taylor says.



One big caveat: Everyone in the study lowered their blood sugar levels, but the longer a person had had diabetes, the less likely they were to get their blood sugar down to below the diabetes threshold.

If you want to take a fast, aggressive approach to weight loss like the study participants did, see an obesity specialist for guidance, says Dr. Nadolsky. You can find one on the American Board of Obesity Medicine’s website.



Otherwise, Dr. Taylor suggests using the Mayo Clinic’s calorie calculator to find out how many calories your body really needs to maintain its current weight, and eat less than that to lose.

Planning ahead when you travel reduces stress.  This is particularly important for a diabetic.  These 5 diabetes travel tips are simple to implement and crucial to your diabetic management.  They are particularly important if you are traveling abroad.

1)  Have a pre-travel check-up.  Make sure your A1C blood sugar levels; your blood pressure and your cholesterol levels are OK.  Get the appropriate shots for any country you plan to visit.



2)  Wear a diabetes medical ID.  Ideally it should be in the language spoken in the country you're visiting.  Not everyone speaks your language and you don't want medical problems through misunderstandings.

3)  Keep your medication and glucose snacks in your hand-luggage.  Check-in baggage does, unfortunately, go astray. Don't risk your diabetes medication by packing it in your main luggage.

4)  Keep your medication in its original box, complete with pharmacy labels.  It will prevent misunderstandings about why you are carrying drugs and, if you are on insulin, syringes.


5)  Be aware of time zone changes, especially when altering your watch.  Remember when you travel east your day becomes shorter; if you travel west your day becomes longer.  You may need to alter the timings of your medication.



Traveling need not be traumatic.  A sensible attitude and a bit of pre-travel planning can make things go far more smoothly.

A pregnant woman who has been diagnosed with gestational diabetes is going to receive a lot of medical support in the form of frequent doctor appointments and nutritional 
counseling. But she may also be in the need of emotional support. It is hard to change the way you eat and live your life when you are pregnant and adjusting to a new disease in addition to that can be overwhelming.


There are many forms of support you can seek out. The support from your spouse or partner is going to be very important. They cannot be eating an ice cream sundae in front of you while you are expected to abstain. Since eating like a diabetic is a healthy lifestyle change, you both should follow the diet set forth for you keeping in mind the extra caloric needs of different people.

Joining a group of pregnant women is helpful too.You can go through your pregnancies together and when your babies are born you can continue with your support network as 
your children grow up together. Touch base with your endocrinologist to see if they know of a support group specifically for women with gestational diabetes.  You can share recipe tips and provide the emotional support needed as you ride the roller coaster of pregnancy with diabetes.


There are many online support groups too with a specialization in many different complications that can arise in pregnancy. Or join a support group for woman online 
whose babies are due at the same time as yours. You may even meet someone online that lives in your neighborhood.

Don't feel that you have to deal with your diabetes on your own.  Help and support are available. If you can't find it readily with a little research you are sure to find what you need.
